Experience
Real Nepal is a project of the non-profit
organization "INFO Nepal" run by Nepalese founders. It has been registered
with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal since 2000.
The founder’s original mission was to develop a range of challenging
volunteer programs, that would benefit both the volunteers and the
communities of Nepal. Since 2000, INFO Nepal has trained and deployed over
500 volunteers from 42 countries, to placements throughout Nepal.
In partnership with the local communities, Experience Nepal supports and
sponsors projects like orphanages, libraries, Health Camps, Environmental
and Informal Education Programs.
INFO Nepal also maintains its own orphanage, the Happy Home Children Care
House in Kathmandu.
We created “The Nepal experience” to give
more people the benefit of experiencing Nepal in a different way and also to
generate more employment, income and cultural exchange for the Nepalese
people.
If you take part in our travel programs you
will get a chance to experience all the Nepal has to offer as well as an
opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of Nepali people.
Every program will be designed exclusively for the special needs and wishes
of your group. The more we know about your interests the better, so that we
will be able to design the right program to suit you.

Yes, but it does not include food and drinks. Only accommodation and

In Kathmandu in Thamel.
* What will volunteers need to bring as

In the placement to go to City and phone calls and Internet and maybe
buy any western food or drink they need, 15 pounds extra each week will
be enough.
In Pokhara before going Trekking the night stay and after trekking the
night stay and food and drinks. 30 pounds will be enough. If they want
to stay few nights more in Pokhara then 10 pounds each day ...
* Do volunteers accommodation with the host family have a flush toilet?
Not many of the families have a flushing toilet, it is a simple
toilet. But we will inform the family to make it nice and clean.
Volunteers need to use water. If they use paper then it need to be
collected in a plastic bag and burnt later on every week in the night
time. We will inform all of these in the cultural training time.
* Can I please have an outline of the
orientation? What is covered day by day etc.
3 hours language ( There will be a break for half an hour in between so
only 2 and half hours language)
1 hours Cultural information / Gender issues in Nepal
1 hours - talk about the placement and family issues / Teaching English
3 hours sightseeing
1 hour Different food program in the evening
* Are any meals not included?
If volunteers eat out of our program. For example : today they have a
Newari food program and if they say they would rather go somewhere else
by themselves we do not pay for it. While travelling volunteers need to
pay for their food but transport will be paid by office. Like going to
and from the placement, going to Chitwan for Jungle activities or going
trekking on the way to pokhara. But on the trekking we pay all the food
and accommodation, not drinks.
* Is any transport not included?
If the volunteers require A/C car or taxi ...we do not pay . For ex :
while going trekking we can go by bus up to Nayapul or walk to the bus
park from Lakeside which is half an hour but if volunteers ask to go via
taxi or a/c car than they need to pay for it which is 5 pounds.
* How do you vet the host families?
Very good question.
Our staff will take volunteer to the placement and stay there one night
with volunteers until they are introduced to the family and the project
people. We will be very careful in this regards. This is the main
concern for volunteers. But we will help for it and make sure that our
volunteers are ok before we leave them.
* What supervision do volunteers have whilst
on the programme?
We keep in touch with volunteers and find out if there is any problem
about the teaching or with the host family. We go and assist to our
volunteers.
* Are there any extra costs that we should be
aware of?
Yes, there are few extra costs and I think we have already answered it.
Actually if the volunteers take 100 pounds extra then it will cover all
the extra expenses but it also depends on the volunteers. Oh yes, for
Visa . First two months 30 USD and each month another 30 USD. Airport
tax is 20 Pounds
* Can volunteers choose their volunter
placement? Are they guaranteed to get it?
This is a bit of a difficult question.
We definitely prefer to select the placement according to our
volunteer's needs and interests but at the same time we need to make a
balance for our Host family and the projects. We make sure that our
volunteers are happy with the placements that they are going on.
* Are there any special requirements volunteers
should have? Qualifications etc??
Yes, if the volunteer who want to teach English, if they have a bit of
good knowledge of Grammar would be nice. Likewise if the volunteers want
to join Orphanage home program than if they have some experience working
with children, or Dancing skills, or painting , or drawing skills would
be great. For the health and sanitation program or health post program,
if the the volunteers have some knowledge of medical would be nice.
* What is the cultural exchange?
Actually all the program are a kind of Cultural Exchange program. But in
Cultural Exchange program volunteers will be staying in two different
placement with two host family and doing more sightseen. We will take to
them to visit a lot of cultural festival. This is good for two weeks
program.
* What will volunteers do in the medical
placement?
It depends in theirs experience.
If the volunteers are medical student than they will have a lot of
opportunity to learn, if the volunteers are some experience with
medicine than they can work at the heath post or doing the health camp,
We will also arrange few days placement at the orphanage homes to chek
up the children and do some tritment to them if they have some medical
experience.
* The 8 week programme
mentions white water rafting, is this included in the price you have
given us? Do they have qualified instructors during this? Is the 7

much! It’s so easy to be accepted in Nepal – the kind and warm
hospitality from everyone, from the moment I stepped foot in
Kathmandu, everyone had welcomed me as Nepali.
